Albert Einstein is widely credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing  over and over again, but expecting different results.”  This wise saying came alive in my heart a few years ago upon graduation from my masters degree in UK. My friend needed to make some claims and he went straight to an insurance broker who attended to him promptly and he was sorted in less than 72 hours. This came as a new experience for me because it was completely different from the norm in Nigeria. It dawned on me that the “norm” was actually abnormal!

I realized that there was a huge gap in the insurance industry in Nigeria ranging from lack of knowledge on the part of the insuring public , a comatose risk-management structure which led to the delayed payment of claims and ignorance of the insured public on their rights and privileges. If insurance was going to take centre-stage and claim its true purpose which is “to serve as a buffer to mitigate loss from unforeseen circumstances,” then something drastic needed to be done. That day, a seed of change was sown, a dream of a new reality in the insurance company in Nigeria was conceived.
